WHAT IS VSHIP?
VSHIP (Visual Stimulation for Hypnotherapy Inpatient Programs) combines the technology of virtual reality with the patient experience of hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy attempts to help patients cope with stressful situations by bringing the patient into a 'higher state of mind', through methods of calming music, imagery, and gentle tone of voice. Using the power of suggestion, a skilled therapist can bring the patient into this higher state of mind. Virtual reality can be brought into hypnotherapy as a much stronger medium by which to transmit visual data than simple imagery.
VSHIP uses virtual reality to provide visual and audio stimulation in a hypnotherapy experience, and narration from a professional hypnotherapist to provide stimulation to other senses such as tactile sensations. By using pre-created virtual environments alongside soothing audio, KVRA developers can give a long-term patient in a hospital an escape from their bed without having to ever leave.
